Art Week Painting in 6JW

We have been very busy  getting  'Up Close and Personal with our Animal Paintings.
Mr Watson is delighted with our work!

We have really been working hard on producing accurate paintings based upon observations of our chosen photographs.  Texture, avoiding flat colours, attention to detail and taking time and care have been our main considerations.

The finished paintings will be on display at the ned of NExt week in the Kings' Art exhibition.

  • Can you find out any information about the person who wrote A Midsummer Night’s Dream? For example: When was he alive? What other plays did he write?

Solar eclipse!

Partial Solar eclipse on January 4, 2011
A partial solar eclipse will occur on January 4, 2011. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth's view of the Sun. A partial solar eclipse occurs in the polar regions of the Earth when the center of the moon's shadow misses the earth.
The eclipse will be visible over most of Europe, the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa and Western Asia, such event will not occur  again (solar eclipse) from UAE till 2019, the event will start 12:11 PM till 2:30 PM Dubai local time.

Harry H the scientist - the big experiment

Dear Mr Watson & year 6

I decided to try out one of my Christmas presents today, it's called Enviro Battery. The aim of the experiment was to make a fork act like a battery. This is what happened.

What I needed
1. 2 zinc plates
2. An LCD clock
3. Sticky tape
4.Connection wire
5. Two forks
6. One lemon cut into two

What I did
1. Firstly I connected one end of the red wire to one of the forks using the sticky tape to secure the connection.
2. Then, I connected the black wire to the to one of the zinc plates.
3. Using another fork and zinc plate I connected them with some wire to make a connection pair.
4. To activate the clock I inserted all the metals into the lemon.

What happened.
First of all it didn't work because the forks I used had plastic handles and as I connected the wires to the plastic nothing happened. When I tried again I used the metal prongs and then the clock switched on! This showed me that electricity cannot travel through plastic, but it does travel through metal. I had a lot of fun and learnt something new.

Happy New Year.
Harry

Did you stay up to midnight?

Have you got any new year's resolutions?
What are they? Why?
Will you keep  them?

End of term & GOODBYE MRS WATSON!

What a busy end of term. The FS 'fandangle', Y123 production of 'The Elves and Shoemaker' and whole school Winter Outdoor concert all crammed into the last week of term.

The end of the year, also marked the end of an era.  Mrs. Watson who has been at the school since the very beginning 6 and half years ago,  left Kings'. As we all know Mrs Watson is a massive character and inspiration in school and and will be missed greatly by us all.  She will have a few months of relaxation before ther arrival of twins in March.
GOOD LUCK to Mrs Watson as she leaves and beging the next chapter of her Adventure.

Finally...
Here's wishing all of Year 6 a very happy holidays - Merry Christmas and HAppy new year to tou all!

See you on 3rd January 2011!
